An elegant, scrumptious (and surprisingly quick) dessert. The bitter nuttiness of the walnuts brings out the complex sweetness of the pears.

Ingredients:
4 pears
1 cups apple or pear juice
1/4 cup dried fruit juice-sweetened cranberries, chopped
1 tablespoon kuzu in 1/4 cup water
1/4 cup walnuts, chopped and toasted

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 350F. Place the pears stem side up in a shallow baking dish and pour an inch of water into the bottom of the dish. Bake the pears for 20 minutes.

Meanwhile combine the juice and cranberries in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat to low, and slowly pour the kuzu water solution into the juice. Stir until the mixture is clear and thickened. Remove from the heat and stir in the toasted walnuts.

To serve, place the pears in individual serving dishes and top with the cranberry-walnut sauce.
