Marie Ting, Owner of Nourishing Beginnings
I am a retired nurse, wife, mother and grandmother. I spent 20 years nursing in the Hospital and assisted living facilities and the last 10 years in hospice. Hospice taught me so much: the spiritual side of living, not to be afraid to die, to make every moment count on this earth, do what you love doing, to take time for self, and gave me wonderful memories and connections with some unique people.
I came to Macrobiotics after being diagnosis with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma . I found the diet helped me in my recovery. I have since become totally involved in Nourishing Beginnings. The mission of Nourishing Beginnings is to introduce people to holistic health.
Besides having a nursing background, I am a certified postpartum doula working with mother and babies. After 20 years of Nursing I saw the negative effect on my patients of eating the standard American diet which sparked my interest in a vegan / vegetarian diet and then led me to a macrobiotic diet.
I have attended many macrobiotic courses at the Kushi Institute in Massachusetts and elsewhere in USA. I came to Austin about three years ago from Boston to attend the Natural Epicurean Academy of Culinary Arts school to learn more about the macrobiotic way of life. I am now taking the graduate advance courses at the Natural Epicurean.
Through Nourishing Beginnings I am able to provide many services to the community. I organize and provide many different chefs to teach cooking party classes in homes throughout Austin. I also provide chefs to educate children and adults about healthy eating.
I personally provide ginger compresses to activate the kidneys and to detoxify the body while helping clients to clarify their purpose in life. I enjoy watercolor painting, listening to music, walking, yoga, tai chi, Chi Gong, and Shiatsu.
