The organization strives to ensure all residents in our communities have access to services that prevent conditions as diverse as homelessness, injuries from falls, domestic violence, or communicable diseases such as the measles or tuberculosis. Other varied services include the management of the county’s rural transportation program (CARTS), emergency assistance for basic household needs, home weatherization, and services for the deaf and hard of hearing.

HHSC oversees the operations of the health and human services system, provides administrative oversight of Texas health and human services programs, and provides direct administration of some programs. Programs Administered by HHSC: Medicaid; Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP); Temporary Assistance for Needy Families; Food Stamps and Nutritional Programs; Family Violence Services; Refugee Services; Disaster Assistance.

Extend-A-Care for Kids supports families, schools, employers, and communities by providing enriching, affordable, licensed child care for children.
